OUR STORY

Inspired by the cultural intersection of crafted third wave coffee, cafe culture, and the modern mobility movement of urban cycling. Maglianero (Black jersey in Italian) was created in 2011 in Burlington Vermont. Coffee, cycling, and cultural connections in art, music, and shared ideas in cafes that helped shape idealogical innovations in countless cities across America and around the world.

We believe that cafes can positively inspire and change culture, and our conviction toward that belief runs deep.

Ah,I'd love to wear a rainbow every day, and tell the world that Everything's OK, but I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back, till things are brighter, I'm the man in black.

- Johnny Cash

Food for Thoughts

"I always take time to eat well and eat locally because it's common sense."

- Ellen Page

Food is integral to fueling creativity and community, but we don’t view food’s purpose as just simple sustenance. For us, food is equal parts energy, inspiration, and a chance to do things in a more intelligent way. So it was with the twin goals of healthy and fresh that we searched for partners here in Burlington, including Tomgirl Juice Co., Barrio, and Jam Bakery, and the Montreal inspired Myer’s Bagels. These partnerships help us create a menu that matches the levels of quality and flavor that our coffees and teas deliver, while using as many locally sourced ingredients as possible.

"A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality."

- John Lennon

Cabaret Voltaire. The Gaslight. Café Wha? These and many other places, some intimate, others expansive, have all found a place in history as centers of action, the hubs around which movements, be they large or small, swirled. From the Dadas to the Lost Generation, the Beats, and beyond, cafés have been an inspirational model for individual expression and community creativity.

The power of the café and the mobility of ideas and ideologies as well as the ability to bring two people together to fall in love, to serve as a meeting point for conversation (or even revolution!)—is as undeniable as it is universal, and it has greatly influenced the way Maglianero is designed.

Located at the heart of Karma Bird House—the collaborative co-working space found on Burlington's waterfront—Maglianero shares the Karma Bird House Gallery which features art exhibits, readings, music sessions, community lectures, life drawing sessions, yoga classes, urban cycling gatherings, and many other unique intersections of people and ideas.

Maglianero believes these experiences are a form of social sculpture where anything is possible and the world can be forever changed for the better.
